School-to-Prison Pipeline
Texas’ School to Prison Pipeline: In this report, Texas Appleseed examines the impact of school discipline and zero tolerance on Texas youth and communities. They find that zero tolerance policies are removing thousands of kids from the classroom and sending them to in-school and out-of-school suspension and to Disciplinary Alternative Education Programs. Various studies by national experts in the fields of education, criminal justice, and mental health have discovered a link between school dropout rates and incarceration. (October, 2007)
