Central Texas

TDCJ Academic College Education

Provides academic college education in select units with relationships with colleges in their area.  Academic, security, and classification criteria must be met to participate. State pays for one academic course per semester. Students are responsible for other  tuition, fees, and tests. Youthful Offender Grant provides full.time academic courseload funding to offenders younger than 25. Classes may lead to an Associates or Bachelor’s degree. Provides a newsletter that comprehensively lists ministries that are resources for people who are incarcerated and re-entering society. Announces relevent training opportunities and conferences. Helps facilitates "First Contact" and  "Welcome Back" services to people released from the Walls Unit.
