Project ReIntegration of Offenders (RIO)

Provides intensive employment services including training and referrals to people who have been incarcerated through WorkSource centers across Texas. Pre-Release Education- Academic. This is provided through select units with relationships with colleges in their area. Academic, security, and classification criteria must be met to participate. State pays for one academic course per semester. Students are responsible for other tuition, fees, and tests. Youthful Offender Grant provides full-time academic courseload funding to offenders younger than 25. Classes may lead to an Associates or Bachelor’s degree.

TDCJ Vocational College Education

Provides vocational college education in select units with relationships with colleges in their area.  Vocational, security, and classification criteria must be met to participate. Students are responsible for all tuition, fees, and tests. Youthful Offender Grant provides no cost vocational courses to qualifying offenders younger than 25. Provides shop training and classroom instruction. Junior college vocational programs were available on 30 units in fiscal year 2005. A Certificate of Completion and semester hours of college credit are earned upon satisfactory completion of a vocational course.

Bridge of Lubbock

Provides food vouchers and clothing Tues and Thur from 10-2. Must bring photo ID (TDCJ ID is fine), proof of residency in Lubbock County (a utility bill  and letter from shelter or transitional house is fine). Food kitchen serves hot meals at noon MWF . Provides monthly medical screenings for blood sugar, blood pressure and weight.

Exodus Prison Ministry of Lubbock

Hosts a 12-step support group for previously incarcerated people and their families. Provides a free bible correspondence course to prisoners and inmates, and a diploma is given at completion. Also sends new and used Christian books to prison chaplains.

Freedom in Jesus Ministries

Non-profit org that provides bible study program and Christian services in select units, sends bible study guides to people in 40 states including Texas. Also supports other ministries to acquire 501c3 status, and trains churches on starting prison ministries. Provides food and clothing to people re-entering Lubbock.
