Project ReIntegration of Offenders (RIO)

Provides intensive employment services including training and referrals to people who have been incarcerated through WorkSource centers across Texas. TDCJ Academic College Education

Provides academic college education in select units with relationships with colleges in their area.  Academic, security, and classification criteria must be met to participate. State pays for one academic course per semester. Students are responsible for other  tuition, fees, and tests. Youthful Offender Grant provides full.time academic courseload funding to offenders younger than 25. Classes may lead to an Associates or Bachelor’s degree. Four units offered the Bachelor’s level courses in 2005.

Provides vocational college education in select units with relationships with colleges in their area.  Vocational, security, and classification criteria must be met to participate. Students are responsible for all tuition, fees, and tests. Youthful Offender Grant provides no cost vocational courses to qualifying offenders younger than 25. Provides shop training and classroom instruction. Junior college vocational programs were available on 30 units in fiscal year 2005. A Certificate of Completion and semester hours of college credit are earned upon satisfactory completion of a vocational course.

Freedom House Discipleship

12 month Christian-based discipleship program. Provides employment placement,  transportation assistance, and parole fee assistance. First six months are free, then apon employment pay 15% of wages. Checking accounts established, and assistance is given to acquire birth certificates and state ID cards. Can house up to 6 men.
